Bournemouth hold firm as Chelsea's £60m bid for Alex Scott stalls
Bournemouth have turned down Chelsea’s bid of more than £60 million for English midfielder Alex Scott, journalist Alex Crook reports. The South Coast club insists the player is not for sale despite the sizable offer.
The Blues are actively seeking a new central midfielder and appear to be prioritising Premier League‑proven talent. Their search aligns with the club’s ambition to reinforce the midfield with experience at the highest domestic level.
Chelsea previously pursued Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka, but that move fell through. With the Xhaka deal off the table, Xabi Alonso’s side have redirected their attention toward Scott as a potential target.
Scott is praised for his versatility across the midfield, press‑resistance, excellent ball‑carrying, ability to link play and relentless work rate. These attributes make him a valuable asset for any top‑flight side.
He helped Bournemouth qualify for the UEFA Europa League last season, featuring in 37 Premier League games and contributing three goals and one assist. His consistency was evident throughout the campaign.
Manchester United warned hiring Conte could repeat swift Chelsea collapse
Scott earned a nomination for the Premier League Young Player of the Year award, an accolade ultimately won by Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly. The recognition highlighted his rising profile.
Manchester United and Arsenal have also expressed interest in the 22‑year‑old, and Bournemouth previously rejected an approach from the Gunners for Scott. The continued interest underscores his market appeal.
With two years remaining on his contract, Scott has turned down Bournemouth’s latest renewal offer. Consequently, the club may be forced to consider a summer sale of the former Bristol City player.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be willing to meet Scott’s valuation if Bournemouth changes its stance. The outcome will depend on the clubs’ negotiations.
Chelsea have recently signed Morgan Rogers in a British‑record deal, raising their total spending to approximately £342 million. The club now needs to generate funds from player sales to stay within financial regulations.
