Bournemouth hires De Boever to inject global goalkeeping expertise
[Getty Images] Frederic de Boever has been appointed as Bournemouth's new first‑team goalkeeper coach, joining the English Premier League side as the Cherries navigate the uncertain future of long‑serving coach Neil Moss and the recent departure of Gareth Stewart to Blackburn this summer.
The club’s dual focus on fresh expertise and internal continuity sets the tone for a broader staff revamp. Charlie Philpott has been promoted from the academy to serve as De Boever's assistant.
De Boever left Monaco at the end of last season before taking up the Bournemouth role. His departure from the French side marks the end of a stint in a top‑flight European league.
During the summer, he served as Belgium's second goalkeeper coach at the World Cup, adding international tournament experience to his résumé. Working alongside the Belgian national team at such a high‑profile event underscores his ability to operate under pressure.
His résumé also includes periods as goalkeeper coach at Club Brugge and Al‑Arabi, as well as coaching assignments in Qatar and Singapore. These roles demonstrate a breadth of experience across different football cultures and competitive environments.
The Cherries value his Champions League and Europa League exposure, noting that he has worked with high‑profile keepers such as Thibaut Courtois, Senne Lammens and Simon Mignolet. This pedigree aligns with Bournemouth's ambition to raise the standard of its defensive training.
For Bournemouth, the appointment is expected to raise the standard of defensive coaching and help address the high number of goals conceded from set‑plays last season. De Boever steps into the Premier League role after his stint in the French league.
