Borussia Mönchengladbach fire Polanski after 12‑goal opening collapse
On the 13th, Borussia Mönchengladbach posted a stark announcement on its official website, confirming the dismissal of head coach Oegen Polanski after the team had conceded twelve goals in the opening three Bundesliga fixtures, suffered three defeats and slipped to the bottom of the table – a first‑ever three‑loss start in eleven seasons.
The squad still includes four Japanese players: defender Itakura Ko, defender Hashioka Daiki, midfielder Uno Zento and forward Machino Shuto, all of whom remain registered despite the turmoil.
Polanski's club roots
Polanski, a Polish native, played for Borussia Mönchengladbach during his career and later built his coaching résumé within the club’s youth set‑up. Following Gerald Seoane’s departure in September 2025, he was appointed interim head coach and, from November, signed a contract that ran until the end of June 2028.
Statement from the departing coach
In a message on the club’s website, Polanski wrote: “Borussia Mönchengladbach is, and always will be, my club. It tears my heart to see these results. I set big goals but could not achieve them. I apologise and hope the club recovers quickly. I am grateful for the time we shared.”
Until a permanent replacement is found, assistant coach Jan Moritz Richter will assume temporary charge of the first team.
