Borussia Dortmund sporting director Karetsas is fine, unlike Eriksen

The young Greek midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas was taken off on a stretcher after only 27 minutes in the Champions League clash between Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal, due to a medical issue. Two days later, Borussia Dortmund's sporting director, Nils Book, reassured that he is fine, considering the circumstances.

Health status update

Borussia Dortmund's sporting director, Nils Book, clarified that medical examinations are still ongoing to determine the origin of the circulatory problems that required hospital admission immediately after the match. The priority remains the health of the young Greek midfielder.

At the moment it is not possible to determine when the eighteen‑year‑old will be able to return to the field. It is certain that he will miss the next league match against Paderborn, as the club has decided to put the player's well‑being first.

Book also ruled out, at least for now, any link with the serious heart problem reported by Christian Eriksen at the 2021 European Championship. “At the moment it does not appear to be a situation of that kind. So far we are rather optimistic,” he said.

The sporting director revealed that Borussia Dortmund also investigated a possible connection with the medical issue reported the same day by the young Jan‑Luca Riedl, without finding any common factor, not even from a nutritional standpoint.

Despite the concern for his teammate, Book is convinced that the incident will not affect the team's performance in the upcoming matches.
