Borussia Dortmund sends Kabar on loan to NEC for vital game time

Under the floodlights at the Goffertstadion, 20‑year‑old Almugera Kabar jogs onto the pitch for NEC Nijmegen, his first start of the season after arriving on loan (Leihe) from Borussia Dortmund. The German side’s black‑yellow colours (Schwarz‑Gelb) had left little room for the young centre‑back, prompting the move.

Loan motivated by playing time

With fierce competition in Dortmund’s defence, the BVB youngster could not expect regular minutes this campaign. In the interest of Spielpraxis and his development potential, the club opted for a season‑long loan to the Dutch side. The agreement contains no purchase option, meaning Kabar will return to Borussia Dortmund when the season ends.

NEC’s European campaign and Kabar’s impact

NEC Nijmegen missed out on Champions League qualification after a defeat to Bodø/Glimt, but remain in the Europa League, keeping the Dutch club in European action. The team’s early season was marred by a 0‑5 loss to Juventus Turin, a match in which Kabar’s foul on Nico González earned a penalty that Nick Woltemade converted in the 35th minute, sealing a 0‑3 lead.

Despite the heavy defeat, the primary aim of the loan is being met. Kabar has featured regularly, progressing from brief substitute appearances to a place in the starting eleven as the season unfolds. His solid minutes on the pitch demonstrate the intended benefit of the loan.

Valerio Pennicino’s photograph captures the defender in action, underscoring the visibility he now enjoys compared with his limited opportunities at Dortmund. The BVB has reportedly not exercised any option to buy, so the Bremen‑born player will head back to Germany at season’s end, though a similar extension of the loan would be welcomed.
