Borussia Dortmund secure three executive extensions to 2031
Nach the confirmation that Bossen remains at Borussia Dortmund, the club announced on Monday that three senior executives have signed new contracts, extending Carsten Cramer’s term to 2031, Lars Ricken’s to 2030 and finance chief Thomas Treß’s to 2028 in a clear signal of continuity.
Continuity on the club’s Weg
The club has repeatedly stressed that it wants to stay the course it set in recent years, putting continuity on the front of its agenda. A photograph by Jürgen Fromme accompanied the announcement, underlining the visual commitment to the same strategic “Weg”. This approach makes the executive renewals unsurprising, according to the club’s own narrative.
Executive extensions secured
Carsten Cramer, the long‑standing sporting director, will now remain at BVB until the end of 2031, providing stability in recruitment and squad planning. Former player Lars Ricken, now a member of the board, extended his contract to 2030, ensuring his experience stays within the hierarchy. Finance chief Thomas Treß also signed on until 2028, cementing the financial leadership for the next six years.
Coach Kovac’s contract on the agenda
Head coach Niko Kovac arrived in February 2025 and has already moved the team to the top of the Bundesliga after four matchdays. His current deal expires in the summer, and the club expects a renewal to be finalised during the international break in November, according to local reports. The timing suggests the board views his contract as the next logical step after the recent executive extensions.
Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, a mainstay for more than six seasons, is also linked to a new deal beyond 2028. Although other top clubs have shown intermittent interest, no concrete offers have materialised, making a further extension appear realistic for both parties.
Players poised for new deals
Striker Serhou Guirassy, aged 30, has revived his form with four goals and two assists in five league appearances, prompting the board to consider another contract despite his age. Defender Waldemar Anton, also 30, has become a leader in the back line after just two years at the club and could remain a key figure beyond 2028.
Club officials indicated that, following the three executive renewals, the next focus will be on the expiring contracts of the coach and several players, with five names already earmarked for possible extensions.
