Borussia Dortmund launches lock‑phone mode to boost stadium atmosphere
Borussia Dortmund has launched a new feature on its official app that rewards supporters who keep their mobile phones locked throughout a match, with the rollout set for this Saturday’s home game against Eintracht Frankfurt. The club hopes the scheme, called Modo Aficionado, will curb distractions and revive collective chanting.
How the fan mode works
Through the app, fans can activate Modo Aficionado before kick‑off. The feature locks the phone and records the minutes it remains unused, awarding points for every minute of silence. Users may switch the mode off during the interval, and at full‑time the club tallies scores, rewarding the highest earners with official shirts and merchandise vouchers.
A survey found that 63 percent of Dortmund supporters regularly use their phones in the stands, prompting the club to act. President Carsten Cramer said, “Más de 81 000 people in the stadium, singing, vibrating and cheering together. This moment is irreplaceable, and that is exactly what we are focusing on.”
Modo Aficionado will debut this Saturday when Borussia Dortmund host Eintracht Frankfurt. The initiative aims to encourage fans to stay attentive to the game, chants and the shared experience, hoping to restore collective enthusiasm over individual screens.
