Bologna sidelines ex‑Rode‑Duivels coach Tedesco after four matches
While Bologna wanted to start a new project with the Italian coach, former Belgium national team coach Domenico Tedesco is already on his way out after just four league matches, one point and a 1‑0 defeat to Napoli that exponentially increased the pressure on the club and the manager.
The club collected only one point in the first four matchdays and now sits sixteenth in Serie A, without having secured a single win. This result quickly put the manager's position under pressure.
Bad start and immediate pressure
The decisive 1‑0 defeat to Napoli last weekend confirmed the discontent, after which, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the board decided to terminate the partnership with Tedesco immediately. Tedesco, who only this summer received a contract until June 2028, will therefore not see this contract run out. That decision came as a surprise to both the staff and the players.
On the third matchday Bologna grabbed its only point so far with a 2‑2 draw against Sassuolo, but the game took an unpleasant turn for the manager. He was suspended for ‘extremely disrespectful behaviour’, meaning he could not be on the bench against Napoli.
The suspension, which lasted only a few weeks, presumably did not strengthen his internal position. For Tedesco this means another setback in his managerial career.

Past and patterns
Tedesco arrived at Bologna after being dismissed by Fenerbahçe in April, an adventure that also ended prematurely. At that club he was given little time to implement his ideas, and the results obviously did not help him.
From February 2023 to January 2025 he was at the helm of the Belgium national team, where he also came under heavy criticism and was eventually dismissed by the Belgian football association.
The swift decision by Bologna underlines the dissatisfaction with the league debut; one point, a 16th place and a suspension proved enough to end the partnership prematurely.
Now Tedesco must once again look for his next challenge, while Bologna will soon need to find a new manager to get the season back on track.
