Bologna’s tactical shift before Lazio: Piccoli and Bernardeschi
The night before their Serie A 2026‑27 debut, Il Bologna prepares to host Lazio at the Dall’Ara on Monday at 18:30, under the watchful eye of Gattuso’s side, while coach Thiago Tedesco outlines a bold tactical plan that could reshape the squad’s hierarchy.
Tactical plans and player roles
Coach Thiago Tedesco addressed the media in a press conference, noting that his statements also consider fantasy‑football implications. He emphasized the need for a courageous, high‑pressing style that still values ball control and build‑up play.
"My play must be courageous, to attack high, press, but also to juggle and help in construction. It is a very complex role," Tedesco said, adding that he likes both Moro and El Azzouzi, and also sees Ferguson and Amondarain as capable in that system.
The coach also revealed a new role specifically crafted for Bernardeschi, aiming to exploit his versatility within the aggressive framework.
Regarding Federico Piccoli, Tedesco praised his intelligence: "Federico is awake, good between the lines and in tight spaces, has the change of play, vision, great technique, and can cut inside to cause damage." He noted Piccoli’s experience as a mezzala at Firenze and Torino.
With Castro now at Roma, Tedesco presented Dovbyk and Piccoli as alternative striking options: "Roberto is further forward because he completed all preparation, Artem is gradually returning and training well."
The goalkeeper hierarchy was also clarified: Skorupski remains the number 1, Pessina the number 2, and promising youngster Happonen occupies the third spot.
Youth promotion and fantasy competition
From the Primavera, Tedesco highlighted Marco Libra’s recent performances, stating, "Marco Libra has done excellently these weeks, shows personality and a strong engine, and now has a permanent place with us."
He reminded fans of the massive fantasy‑football challenge, with 60 million participants competing for a national ranking and more than €340 000 in prize money.
