Bologna parts ways with Tedesco after four games – Palladino in charge
FC Bologna has dismissed former Bundesliga coach Domenico Tedesco after only four games, after the team had collected just one point in Serie A. The club's official statement followed immediately on reports from Italian media, which were already talking about the imminent departure the night before.
Dismissal after four games
Tedesco, 41, led Bologna in the first four matches to zero wins, one draw and three defeats, leaving the club in 16th place after the game in Naples. In Serie A the team earned only one point, and the coach saw a red card in the 2-2 clash against Sassuolo, after which the league suspended him for two games for “extremely disrespectful behaviour”. The former coach of FC Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig thus reached his seventh posting in professional football.
His longest club tenure was from July 2017 to March 2019 at Schalke, where he spent the most time at club level. Before Bologna he had already been active in the Bundesliga, but the brief record in Italy left no room for patience.
Palladino takes the helm
Raffaele Palladino was appointed technical director and signed a contract until 30. June 2029. Previously he coached Atalanta from November 2025 to June 2026, where he achieved an average of 1.59 points per game over 39 matches. He therefore takes on the task of steering the team out of the current misery.
Italian dominance in Bologna puts pressure on the Red Devils' chances
The club thanked Tedesco warmly for his professionalism and expertise and wished him and his staff all the best for their future careers.

Officially published on 16 September 2026 at 10:27, the piece carries the label “Was 7th posting at 41 years”. After the brief stint in Bologna this was the coach’s seventh posting, a continuation of his previous assignments.
The contrast between the swift dismissal and the immediate appointment of Palladino shows that Bologna is ready to act quickly to stabilise the sporting situation.
