Bologna dismiss Tedesco as Palladino returns to Serie A
Bologna have terminated the contract of head coach Domenico Tedesco after just four Serie A fixtures and have installed former Atalanta manager Raffaele Palladino as his successor, the club announced on Wednesday. The decision comes with the team sitting sixteenth in the table with a solitary point after defeats to Lazio, Atalanta and Napoli.
Early season woes
After four league fixtures Bologna sit in sixteenth place with a single point. The Rossoblu have suffered three 1‑0 defeats to Lazio, Atalanta and Napoli, and their only goals came in a 2‑2 draw with Sassuolo at the start of September. The 2‑2 result was witnessed on September 6 at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
Tedesco became the second Serie A manager to lose his job this season, following Fiorentina’s dismissal of Fabio Grosso and the club’s subsequent re‑appointment of Paolo Vanoli. His departure marks a swift reaction to the club’s weak start. The board acted after just one point from four games.
The German‑Italian coach left Bologna just 99 days after being hired in the summer. Prior to his brief spell he had guided Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga and served as Belgium’s national team manager before a dismissal at Fenerbahçe Istanbul in April. Media reports suggested growing dissatisfaction within the club’s hierarchy.

Palladino’s appointment
Raffaele Palladino arrives on a three‑year deal that runs until the summer of 2029. The former Monza, Fiorentina and Atalanta boss replaces Tedesco as head coach of the men’s first team. Bologna confirmed the appointment in a statement on Wednesday.
Palladino will conduct his first training session on Wednesday afternoon at 15:00 BST (16:00 local time). He will oversee one home fixture against Torino before the extended September‑October international break. The club hopes the new manager can reverse the early‑season slide.
With the change in management, Bologna aim to improve their points tally and climb out of the relegation zone. The swift appointment underscores the board’s intent to act decisively when results falter.
