Bologna and Verona speed up works to host Euro 2032

While Bologna announces the partnership with BolognaFiere for a new 35,000‑seat venue, Hellas Verona presents to the municipal council the project for a new stadium that will replace the old Bentegodi; both aim to complete the works in time for EURO 2032.

Bologna has confirmed the collaboration with BolognaFiere to build a 35,000‑spectator arena, with a removable pitch in a hidden chamber for concerts and other events. The total investment is estimated at around €300 m and the opening is slated for spring 2031, with the aim of hosting EURO matches.

Hellas Verona has presented to the local council a feasibility plan to demolish the Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium and create a new venue. Here as well the investment amounts to €300 m, primarily funded by the club with a share of public participation, and will include restaurants, commercial spaces and a museum dedicated to the club.

Laws, staff and deadlines

Recent legislative changes and the increase in dedicated staff have accelerated the procedures, while the firm deadline to be ready for the 2032 European Championships has generated a wave of activity around the new stadium projects.

Calendar and upcoming matches

On 9 April 2026, at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium in Bologna, the 2025/26 Europa League Quarter‑Final Leg One between Bologna FC 1909 and Aston Villa FC will be played, an appointment that highlights the city’s ability to host high‑profile events. The presence of UEFA, Europa, League, One, Aston, Villa, Stadium, Renato and Dall’Ara in the context demonstrates the relevance of the infrastructure.

In the northern area of the city of Bologna, the land for development has already been allocated, with plans for a new highway exit, a railway station and a tram stop, to support the accessibility of the new venue.

The ambition is clear: to guarantee Bologna and Verona the possibility of hosting EURO 2032 matches, with the hope of also welcoming a group‑stage final. The EURO trophy, displayed after Italy and Turkey were chosen as co‑hosts in 2023, points to the prestige of the event.

In summary, Bologna is focusing on a versatile venue ready by 2031, while Verona favors a larger project that includes commercial spaces and a museum, both committed to meeting the EURO 2032 deadline.
