Bola na Rede warns Gabri Veiga's next step hinges on Porto's price for a Champions League club
Porto midfielder Gabri Veiga and forward Samu Aghehowa have been praised by Pablo Fuentenebro, head of the International Football section at Diario As, in an interview with Bola na Rede. Fuentenebro highlighted Veiga’s adaptability and suggested his next club must be able to compete for the Champions League, while noting the price Porto will set as the decisive factor.
Veiga praised for versatility
Fuentenebro said, "Gabri Veiga has an advantage: he adapts well anywhere. He was at Celta, then moved unexpectedly to Saudi Arabia, and has now returned to Europe through the doors of FC Porto, where he is becoming the best player." The director added that Veiga possesses the quality to make the jump to clubs in the Premier League or La Liga, or any other top‑weight league.
Aghehowa’s comeback and future prospects
Regarding Samu Aghehowa, Fuentenebro remarked, "Aghehowa, like Roberto Fernández, could have been called up for the World Cup if not for a knee injury. He was one of the strikers fighting for the spot taken by Borja Iglesias and had even been summoned by Luis de la Fuente on other occasions." He praised Aghehowa’s rapid recovery after seven months out, noting his work to accelerate the return for FC Porto’s benefit.
Fuentenebro continued, "In the future, if he gets minutes and goals, he will be with the Spain national team. He is a value for FC Porto and will bring many joys in the Primeira Liga and possibly in Spain later on." The Spanish journalist stressed that both players are valuable assets for Porto, with Veiga’s market value and Aghehowa’s potential influencing future transfer decisions.
The conversation also touched on the financial aspect, with Fuentenebro stating that the amount Porto demands for Veiga will determine whether he can move to a club capable of challenging for the Champions League. No specific fee was disclosed.
