Blues rally under Davies after Brentford thrashing with Wrexham win

Birmingham City have steadied under Chris Davies, extending their unbeaten away run to five games after a morale‑boosting win at Wrexham. The victory wipes away the sting of Tuesday night’s 6‑1 Carabao Cup defeat to Brentford and eases the personal criticism that had mounted on the Welsh boss.

Unbeaten record fuels confidence

Welshman Chris Davies remains unbeaten in five meetings with Wrexham since taking charge of the Blues. Despite the personal criticism that followed the mid‑week loss, the under‑pressure manager trusted his squad to turn the tide. He noted that the win shows the team can respond when under scrutiny.

Against winless Wrexham, Birmingham outwitted their hosts to stretch the unbeaten away streak to five games. The match was decided by a set‑piece header from defender Phil Neumann, who turned August Priske’s delivery into the decisive goal. Davies praised the collective effort, calling it a big and deserved win.

"I've had some low moments," Davies told BBC Radio WM. "But I had some much lower moments when we were in League One. And I've just learnt how to deal with them. I trust the players. My job was to pick them up – and I had no doubt that they would be ready. We got ourselves together and we showed what we are about. The most important thing was that we looked like a team. Anyone could see that. But it was a big win. And a deserved win too."

Set‑piece edge proves decisive

Davies highlighted the importance of set‑pieces, recalling the 1‑0 win at Swansea that came from an August Priske strike. "Tight games like that can go either way," he added. "And in games this tight you need your setpieces. We won away at Swansea with a setpiece – and now we've won away here with a setpiece too."

He lauded Phil Neumann’s header and August’s quality cross, joking that the only problem was Phil did not claim a hat‑trick. Davies also praised Neumann’s battle with Kieffer Moore, describing the striker as “big Kieffer … as hard as they come on the physical side.”
