Bizarre shorts tear leaves Julian Ryerson in underwear as BVB win
In a bizarre Bundesliga clash yesterday, Dortmund’s Julian Ryerson found himself without shorts after Jamie Leweling’s challenge ripped them, forcing the Norwegian to improvise before Alexander Meyer handed him a replacement, and BVB still secured a 1‑0 victory over VfB Stuttgart.
Shorts torn in the heat of battle
Leweling pulled so hard on Ryerson’s shorts that they split completely. Ryerson first tried to tie a knot in the torn fabric, but the makeshift fix fell apart within seconds, as shown on television footage. By the 68th minute, backup goalkeeper Alexander Meyer sprinted onto the pitch with a fresh pair of shorts.
The defender briefly stood on the field in his underwear before the new shorts were fitted. Two minutes after the wardrobe change, Maximilian Beier netted the decisive goal that sealed the 1‑0 win.
The result left BVB at the top of the Bundesliga table entering the international break, having won all four matches. Bayern Munich trail by just two points, keeping the title race alive.
