Biraghi rejects Panathinaikos and stays at Torino
In his office in Cernusco sul Naviglio, left‑back Cristiano Biraghi signed the decision to reject the offer of Panathinaikos, choosing to stay at Torino until the end of his contract, which expires on 30 June, and he thanked the Greek officials for the interest shown.
The Greek offer
During the week, an emissary of Panathinaikos contacted the left‑back from Cernusco sul Naviglio, proposing a low‑cost transfer. The Greek club offered a symbolic compensation for the card of the ’92 class and a two‑year contract proposal.
The former Inter defender evaluated the offer, but found the experience abroad unappealing, especially ten years after his spell in Spain with Granada. The offer also included the possibility of playing in the Greek Super League, but the defender preferred to remain in Italy.
The consequences for Torino and Panathinaikos
The contract of Biraghi with Torino expires on 30 June; his negative response was motivated by strictly personal reasons. He thanked the Panathinaikos officials for the interest shown.
The refusal forces the white‑and‑green management to review the objectives for the left flank. Biraghi remains at the disposal of coach Abate, convinced that he can still contribute to the squad both in the dressing room and on the pitch.
With the Granada route closed, Panathinaikos turned its attention to the Italian market, signing Salah‑Eddine on loan from Roma with an option to buy.
Torino will now have to find an alternative for the left side, while Biraghi prepares to continue his Torino adventure in the defensive rotation.
