Bielik's throat grab sparks fan slap and disciplinary doubts at Portsmouth
Jogador Krystian Bielik was involved in a bizarre confrontation at Fratton Park on Saturday as Cardiff fell 2‑0 to Portsmouth in the English Championship, when the 28‑year‑old defender grabbed a teenage supporter by the throat and was slapped in the face.
Incident at Fratton Park
Reprodução – Aos 27 minutos do segundo tempo, with the score already in Portsmouth’s favour, the ball rolled out to a teenager in the stands. The youngster tossed the ball back onto the pitch as play resumed.
Jogador Krystian Bielik rushed towards the fan, seized his throat and held him briefly. The teenager immediately rose and delivered a slap to the defender’s face, prompting an angry reaction from surrounding supporters.
The referee consulted the private security personnel stationed beside the pitch and ordered the fan to be escorted from the stadium. Bielik, who had already been shown a yellow card in the ninth minute, received no further sanction for the episode.
Consequences and reactions
Bielik, 28, is a former Arsenal academy product who also featured for Birmingham before joining Cardiff last month from West Brom. The Poland international, capped eleven times, was making his fourth appearance for the Bluebirds on the day.
A separate incident saw another Portsmouth supporter launch the ball at the head of Cardiff midfielder Perry Ng, leading to a further three‑minute interruption. The fan involved in the initial throat‑grab was also removed before the final whistle.
Both managers and the captains were spoken to by the referee after the stoppage, and the Football Association is reportedly considering a lengthy ban for Bielik. No disciplinary action had been taken at the time of reporting.
While Cardiff’s 2‑0 defeat will be recorded in the Championship table, the clash between player and supporter has dominated the narrative, highlighting concerns over on‑field conduct and fan‑player boundaries.
