Betting on Mbappé: the Swiss runner signs a ten‑year deal
Swiss company On announced this Friday its entry into football by naming Kylian Mbappé as global ambassador, after the end of his contract with Nike in July. The Real Madrid and French national team player signed a ten‑year deal with the brand.
A two‑part agreement
To win over the star, On offered two forms of compensation. The company therefore combined a financial component, whose amount remains confidential, with a share‑based remuneration.
After several months of approaches from equipment manufacturers, Mbappé chose On. His contract with Nike, his historic equipment supplier, ended on 31 July, paving the way for this new ten‑year partnership.
Specialised in running since its founding in 2010, the brand is now launching into football with ambition, by signing one of the world’s best players. This approach aims to link the runner’s notoriety with that of the footballer.
Thierry Henry, On’s football director, played a key role. He negotiated for several months with Mbappé to convince him to join the venture.
In addition to the financial contract, On will remunerate the champion with shares. On Tuesday, the company will host its “Investor Day” in Zurich, where it can detail the exact nature of the agreement.
