Besiktas' title hopes hinge on Salah after Liverpool exit
Liverpool face a looming void as Mohamed Salah, whose departure the Reds' fans did not expect until June 2027, has mutually terminated his contract after a fallout with manager Arne Slot, ending a two‑year extension that paid him £400,000 a week.
The Egyptian striker contributed 50 goals across all competitions and more or less carried Liverpool to the Premier League title, justifying the huge weekly wage he received.
His exit follows multiple fallings out with Arne Slot, prompting the player to seek pastures new and to mutually terminate his contract with the Anfield outfit.
Besiktas emerge as the most likely destination, a club that is not as good as it once was and is looking to add a new winger among its main priorities this summer.
A potential reunion with former Liverpool teammate Darwin Nunez is already being discussed; the two shared a special bond at Liverpool, with Salah admitting Nunez was his favourite player to play alongside after Roberto Firmino.
"BREAKING, Darwin Núñez is edging closer to an agreement with Beşiktaş over a loan move until the end of the season," Sacha Tavolieri wrote, adding that more details will follow.
If both Salah and Nunez complete moves to Besiktas, the Turkish side could once again challenge Galatasaray for the league title.
Finalisation still depends on securing additional signings and confirming the loan terms for Nunez, obstacles that will shape the club's summer strategy.
