Bernardo Silva’s Spain dream sparks Real Madrid’s summer overhaul
Manchester City’s superstar Bernardo Silva has disclosed that the Portuguese international long‑held a secret wish to return to Spain, a desire confirmed after his move to Real Madrid – ‘Always talked about Spain’. At the same time, the Spanish club has already completed five summer signings, including Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries.
Real Madrid have already completed five signings this summer: Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella and Carlos Espi. The Spanish club’s activity shows a clear intent to reinforce multiple positions ahead of the new campaign.
The Spanish club are also close to an agreement to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig and are in negotiations with Manchester City to sign Rodri. These potential additions would further deepen the squad’s depth in midfield and defence.
It is safe to say that it has been a blockbuster summer transfer window for Jose Mourinho upon his return to the club. Mourinho’s arrival has coincided with a flurry of high‑profile arrivals and ongoing talks.
One other player Madrid were interested in earlier in the window was Josko Gvardiol, but the Croatian ended up signing a new contract at the English club. Gvardiol told The Athletic that Bernardo Silva always wanted Spain, saying “Bernardo being back where he belongs. He talked about Spain for a long, long time.”
Gvardiol also reflected on City’s squad changes, noting the loss of two leaders, Bernardo and John Stones. He added that the full impact of those departures will become clear when the team regroups at the start of the season.
For a long time it seemed that if Bernardo returned to Spain it would be to play for Barcelona, with Atletico also entering the race. It was only after Jose Mourinho’s arrival that Real Madrid pushed to sign Bernardo and wrapped up the deal in quick time.
Bernardo joins Los Blancos with a reputation as one of Europe’s most intelligent and technically gifted midfielders. His versatility, work rate and experience from an excellent season at Manchester City should make him a valuable addition as Madrid reshape their midfield ahead of the new La Liga campaign.
The contrast between Manchester City’s departing leaders and Real Madrid’s aggressive recruitment underlines how the Spanish club is reshaping its midfield ahead of the upcoming La Liga season.
