Bernal backs Alvarez chase, warns of Mourinho’s Real Madrid return
Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal said on television he would be delighted to see World Cup winner Julian Alvarez join Hansi Flick’s squad at Camp Nou, while also lauding José Mourinho’s imminent return to Real Madrid as a legendary manager again.
Bernal said any addition would be welcomed positively in the dressing room. He added, “I will be happy with whoever comes, and if no one does, we’ll fight to the bitter end with the players we have and the squad we’ve got.”
Barcelona continue to monitor the Argentine’s future closely after the striker told Atletico Madrid of his desire to leave this summer. The club noted they remain attentive to the forward’s situation despite resistance from their La Liga rivals.
Club president Joan Laporta publicly admitted that contacts have been made between the parties. Atletico Madrid remain reluctant to negotiate with a direct domestic rival.
Atletico Madrid launched a social media campaign aimed at Barcelona amid persistent rumors linking Alvarez with a move to Catalonia. Bernal said he didn’t pay much attention to them and won’t get involved in anything.
When asked about Mourinho’s return, Bernal called the Portuguese coach “a legend as a manager at Real Madrid” and described him as “brilliant.” He added that Real Madrid strengthen their squad each year, and Barcelona will have to fight and prepare for the challenge, noting it “won’t be easy at all.”
Bernal’s comments suggest Barcelona will keep their current squad focused regardless of whether Alvarez arrives. Both clubs, therefore, appear ready to enter the final weeks of the transfer window with clear objectives and a willingness to compete fiercely.
