Benjamin Sesko apologises as injury forces Man United striker out of Slovenia squad

Benjamin Sesko, the 23‑year‑old striker for Manchester United, has issued a public apology to Slovenia supporters after confirming his withdrawal from the national team’s upcoming Nations League fixtures. The injury, which kept him out of United’s Premier League match against Fulham, also ruled him out of the international break.

Injury curtails United involvement

Sesko emerged as an injury blow for United over the weekend, missing the squad that faced Fulham in the Premier League. He has made six appearances this season for United but has yet to start a Premier League game. Michael Carrick started the striker in the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton and the Champions League win over Sabah.

Apology posted on Instagram

In a translated Instagram post, Sesko wrote: “I am very sorry that I will have to miss the national team’s upcoming matches. I have always played for Slovenia – and always will – with heart and pride.” He added that his focus now is on recovery and that he hopes to return to help both club and country.

United confirm fitness update

Manchester United confirmed that Sesko will undergo tests this week before defining an individual recovery plan. The club’s statement reiterated his withdrawal from the Slovenia squad and promised regular updates on his progress.

Carrick told MUTV on Sunday that Sesko “just felt a little bit of pain after the game the other night [against Brighton]”. He said United are assessing the situation and hope it is not serious, but added that a final verdict will depend on medical results.

Slovenia’s upcoming Nations League schedule includes matches against Scotland, North Macedonia and Switzerland. With Sesko unavailable, the team will have to adjust their attacking options.

Comments on the situation appeared across Sport Central, with Mark Wakefield noting the disappointment for both United and Slovenia fans. The article, dated 12:08 on 22 Sep, included View and Images sections highlighting the striker’s apology.

United’s fans are encouraged to follow the club’s official Manchester United Facebook page for further updates on Sesko’s recovery and future involvement.
