Ben Jacobs Drops Update as United battle to retain JJ Gabriel Man Utd

Under the floodlights of Old Trafford, a lone figure lingered on the training pitch as Ben Jacobs Drops Update on the future of JJ Gabriel, the 16‑year‑old sensation whose name has already sparked a Europe‑wide transfer buzz. Fans watched anxiously, aware that his next move could reshape the club’s long‑term plans.

Elite clubs show interest

Manchester United are still fighting to keep hold of the superstar teenager, but a number of Europe’s elite clubs have already held talks about a deal, GIVEMESPORT senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs reported. Like many followers, I’m keen to follow the thread, log in here and give my thoughts as the saga unfolds.

The forward formally requested to be released from his registration last month, after not featuring in the first‑team games against Ipswich and Sabah in the early part of the season. United had planned to include him in the squad for the EFL Cup tie against Brighton the following day, but he refused to train and demanded to leave.

Normally a player of his age could not move until he turns eighteen, yet Gabriel holds both Irish and Cypriot passports, allowing a move to Europe once he turns sixteen on 6 October. This passport situation has opened the door for a potential transfer this summer rather than waiting for the usual age‑related deadline.

Clubs in the race

“Now, because he’s turned 16 and can move with the right passport, Irish or Cypriot, to Europe, you have lots of interest from elite clubs, and now the player’s 16, he can seek formal representation,” Ben Jacobs said. He added that Chelsea have shown interest, but their view is that Gabriel would be moving abroad to a European club.

Jacobs also revealed that Real Madrid remain a leading contender, while Barcelona have held meetings despite Deco’s public denial. Bayern Munich and PSG have likewise held talks, making four leading clubs actively pursuing the Red Devils’ prodigy.

Manchester United are not expected to cancel the registration for an English club, so a move to Chelsea or Manchester City would likely be deferred to the summer. If Gabriel pushes for an immediate switch, the family must demonstrate relocation and a non‑football‑related income, after which the player could legally make the switch despite his contract running until the summer. The future of the teenager therefore hinges on both legal clearance and the choice of club.
