Beier's late strike preserves Dortmund’s perfect start in Stuttgart
Borussia Dortmund travelled to the Mercedes‑Benz Arena in Stuttgart seeking to preserve a 100 percent start to the Bundesliga season. A late strike from Maximilian Beier gave the visitors the lead, securing three points and keeping the Black‑and‑Yellow side unbeaten after the opening round.
First half dominance without a breakthrough
In the opening 45 minutes the hosts created very few clear‑cut chances, but Dortmund were the more dominant side, holding more possession and entering Stuttgart’s box more often. Despite this pressure, they failed to convert any opportunity into a shot that troubled goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow.
Stuttgart’s best chances came from Deniz Undav and Ermedin Demirovic, both of whose attempts were comfortably saved by Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
Second‑half substitutions create the winner
The second half mirrored the first until the 60th minute when manager Niko Kovac introduced Jobe Bellingham and the returning Konstantinos Karetsas. The fresh legs swung the momentum in Dortmund’s favour, with Karetsas registering the visitors’ first shot on target.
Two minutes later Bellingham delivered a low cross that Maximilian Beier turned home, giving Kovac’s side a 1‑0 lead. Substitute Fabio Silva later enjoyed a decent chance to double the lead, but Stuttgart’s search for an equaliser never materialised.
Ratings, table shift and Beier’s personal triumph
The BUNDESLIGA PLAYER RATINGS awarded Maximilian Beier a seven, the highest of the match, while Gregor Kobel and Nico Schlotterbeck each earned six. Other notable scores included Julian Ryerson (five) and Felix Nmecha (six) for Dortmund, and Deniz Undav (four) for Stuttgart.
The win maintains Dortmund’s 100 percent record, leaving them the only side with a perfect start and propelling them to the top of the table with a two‑point lead over Bayern Munich. Stuttgart remain 14th with three points.
After being omitted from Jürgen Klopp’s 44‑man Germany squad, the 23‑year‑old Beier responded by scoring the winner. Deployed earlier this season as a left‑wing‑back, he operated behind Serhou Guirassy on the day and recorded the highest number of touches in the box (ten, according to FotMob).
The fourth matchday also featured fixtures at Ore 15.30 (Bayer Leverkusen‑RB Leipzig) and other games across the weekend, underscoring the league’s packed schedule.
