Bayern star Harry Kane close to new contract extension
For months there was uncertainty about the future of Bayern star Harry Kane at FC Bayern Munich. Now the 33‑year‑old Englishman appears to have made a final decision to extend the contract. The photo by WDR Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg for Sky documents the moment.
The months‑long negotiations between the reigning German champion and one of the best strikers in the world have now come to an end. According to reports, Harry Kane and the German record champion have reached a fundamental agreement on a new contract. This brings the lengthy negotiation period to a close.
Contract details and timeline
The new contract is set to run until 2029. However, final details still need to be clarified before the official announcement is made. A specific date for the signing has not been mentioned yet.
Despite the lack of a signature, it is expected that the official announcement will not be delayed much longer. The club management signals that the formalities will be completed soon. Thus the excitement for the fans remains.
Currently the 33‑year‑old striker is on international duty with England. On Tuesday, 6 October, he will face the Czech Republic. After the match he will return to Munich together with the other national team players of the record champions.
For FC Bayern, the match against FC Augsburg is scheduled for Saturday, 10 October. By then Kane could already have signed the new contract, but that remains uncertain. The squad is nevertheless preparing for the duel.
If the extension is confirmed, the striker will no longer need to promote himself. Based on his strong performances last season, he is considered one of the favourites for the World Footballer of the Year award, which will be presented in a few weeks.
