Bayern scout Premier League veteran Nick Pope as Neuer era nears end

El Bayern have turned their attention to the Premier League, with reports from Mike Hewitt and Javier García-Velasco for Para naming Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope as a potential future signing. The 34‑year‑old Englishman, who has spent several seasons in England, now features in Bayern's scouting reports.

Succession planning at Bayern

In Munich the club is preparing for an inevitable reality: the end of Manuel Neuer’s era. The German international, now 40, continues to guard Bayern’s net but the hierarchy wants to study alternatives before a definitive handover becomes necessary.

Nick Pope's reduced role at Newcastle

Pope, who built his reputation at Burnley before joining Newcastle United, offers extensive Premier League experience. His contract with the “Rooks” runs until June 2027, a timeline that could ease a move to Germany.

Since Matthias Jaissle arrived as Newcastle manager, the German coach has preferred Lukáš Horníček as the first‑choice keeper. Pope has not featured in any official match this season, a loss of prominence that further opens the door to a possible exit.

Newcastle continue to remodel their squad, and Pope, a recognizable figure since his 2022 arrival, may become one of the next departures. His potential exit would join a list of recent key players leaving the English club.

Bayern’s interest in England is not new. In 2023 the German giants paid a record fee for Harry Kane from Tottenham, and a year later they added Michael Olise from Crystal Palace. Those signings illustrate a pathway the club could follow again, this time for a goalkeeper who has long been Neuer’s undisputed holder.
