Bayern’s Frankfurt win is clouded by Giulia Gwinn’s injury

Bayern’s Frankfurt win is clouded by Giulia Gwinn’s injury

In the packed Brentanobad arena, Bayern Munich’s women surged to a 1‑0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, only for the celebration to be dimmed when Giulia Gwinn limped off after receiving treatment for a twisted left ankle. The injury came in the closing minutes, raising concerns for the German captain ahead of upcoming internationals.

Klara Bühl delivered the decisive strike, finding the net in the 18th minute to secure a 1‑0 win. Her finish came from a swift counter after a corner, the first real chance for Bayern after a tentative first half.

Eintracht Frankfurt struggled to threaten, with captain Laura Freigang unable to create a clear danger. Their attack remained too harmless to test the Bayern defence.

Coach José Barcala praised his side for keeping the Serie alive, yet the triumph was immediately clouded by injury concerns. The Besorgter Blick highlighted the worry surrounding the German captain.

Bayern extend lead despite injury

The win marks Bayern’s sixth consecutive victory, extending their unbeaten run to 48 league games. Their cushion over second‑placed Frankfurt now stands at five points.

Earlier this week Bayern drew 2‑2 with Manchester City in the Champions League, then beat Benfica Lisbon 3‑0 and overcame Borussia Mönchengladbach 2‑1 in the DFB‑Pokal. Those results showed the team’s ability to bounce back from challenging fixtures.

Giulia Gwinn collapsed in a run‑duel late in the match, receiving treatment for a twisted left ankle that was bandaged thickly on the bench. Despite the scare, she remains slated for the forthcoming international fixtures.
