Bayern Munich's Konrad Laimer urges 'We can do even better'
Konrad Laimer returns his full attention to Bayern Munich after the FIFA World Cup, while the club’s own ambition is to surpass the domestic double that capped last season. The contrast between a player’s personal reset and a team’s collective drive frames Bayern’s outlook for 2026/27.
Laimer has switched his focus back to Bayern Munich after representing Austria at the FIFA World Cup. The Austrian midfielder made the shift immediately following the tournament.
He recently extended his contract with Bayern until 2029, a deal secured after he helped Austria reach the FIFA World Cup Round of 32.
Speaking to the media, Laimer said: "We can still play better football, all of us together. We want to start the season with that mindset. Last season went well, but we can and want to do even better." The quote underscores his belief in collective improvement.
During Bayern's pre‑season tour of Asia, Laimer noted that the Bundesliga and DFB Cup winners are determined to raise their level after falling short in the UEFA Champions League semi‑finals, where they were beaten by eventual winners Paris Saint‑Germain.
Bayern entered the previous campaign as Bundesliga and DFB Cup champions, and Laimer emphasized the club’s focus on building on that domestic double as they prepare for the start of the 2026/27 season.
Entering his fourth season at Bayern, Laimer highlighted the club’s relentless winning mentality, stating: "You can really feel every single day here, when you're training and surrounded by this environment, that at FC Bayern you want to win every single title. That's what makes it all so special. We're going for it all again."
Bayern's first competitive outing of the new season will be against Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on 22 August, marking the kickoff of their campaign.
