Bayern Munich’s injury crisis looms ahead of Super Cup vs Dortmund

In the Saturday friendly at Leipzig, Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala struck in the 81st minute before limping off with a thigh injury in the 86th, as the Bavarians secured a 3-1 victory.

Injury fallout

Konrad Laimer was the first to leave, nursing a thigh problem after ten minutes of play. South Korean defender Kim Min-jae followed with a similar thigh injury in the 69th minute, and Musiala’s exit came just five minutes after his decisive goal.

The trio of setbacks casts a shadow over Bayern’s preparations, with Laimer’s condition particularly threatening his availability for the Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday 22 August at 20:30.

Preparation and transfers

Musiala’s 81st‑minute finish came from a pass by new signing Ismael Saibari, who arrived this summer for €50 million. The forward’s contribution highlighted the impact of Bayern’s recent spending.

Defender Nathaniel Brown also joined the squad for €50 million, completing a pair of high‑profile acquisitions that underline the club’s aggressive transfer strategy.

The win marked Bayern’s third consecutive success in the pre‑season schedule. A final friendly against Heidenheim is set for 18 August at 18:00, providing one more opportunity to assess the squad.

Off the pitch, Bayern executed a financial move by selling 5 % of its capital, a transaction described as a “beautiful operation” by club officials.

While the victory in Leipzig was celebrated, the “triple blow” of injuries has largely eclipsed the triumph, leaving fans and staff to wonder how the depleted lineup will fare in the upcoming Supercoupe against Dortmund.
