Bayern Munich Luis Diaz set for weeks out after Arsenal clash

Bayern Munich Luis Diaz was forced off in the 90th minute of Wednesday’s 2‑2 Champions League draw with Arsenal after a left‑thigh muscle‑bundle tear curtailed his 22‑minute cameo, prompting a diagnosis that will keep the Colombian winger out for four to six weeks.

The German record champions announced the diagnosis on Thursday afternoon after the club’s medical staff examined the winger. Florian Plettenberg reported that Bayern internally estimate a recovery period of roughly four to six weeks for the 29‑year‑old. The injury is classified as a muscle‑bundle tear in his left thigh.

Upcoming fixtures at risk

Diaz could miss several crucial games across three competitions. In the Bundesliga, Bayern face SC Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund without him, while the DFB‑Pokal tie against 1. FC Magdeburg also looms. A Champions League trip to Atlético Madrid is likewise jeopardised, and further absences against Mainz 05 and possibly 1. FC Köln may follow.

His absence comes after a spectacular display against RB Leipzig on Saturday, where he netted a hat‑trick and supplied an assist in a 6‑1 victory. The Colombian’s four direct goal involvements underscored his importance in Vincent Kompany’s attacking set‑up. The performance appeared to signal a turnaround from an inconsistent start to the league campaign.

Earlier injury concerns

Díaz had already felt muscular discomfort after the Leipzig match. Kompany revealed that Bayern intended to withdraw Díaz during the final 15 minutes, but all substitutions had been used. Consequently, the winger started on the bench against Arsenal, entered in the 68th minute for Ismael Saibari, and was forced off in the 90th minute after 22 minutes of play.

Kompany was forced to reshuffle his attack against Arsenal, with Michael Olise suspended and Jamal Musiala injured. He deployed Alphonso Davies in a more advanced left‑flank role, a move that paid off when Davies scored the 35th‑minute equaliser from a Harry Kane pass. The coach later said the option had been discussed with board member for sport Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund.

Diaz’s four‑to‑six‑week lay‑off leaves Bayern without a key component of their front line as they chase domestic and European honours. The club will now rely on alternatives such as Davies while the Colombian rehabilitates.
