Bayern Munich keeps tracking Vušković, but constraints block transfer

Luka Vušković, the 19-year-old Croat who moved last summer from Tottenham to Brighton for tens of millions of euros, is again on Bayern Munich's radar, while the German record champions currently lack the financial capacity to complete the transfer.

Impressions in Belgium and Germany

The former KVC Westerlo defender impressed on loan in the 2024/25 season in the Jupiler Pro League, scoring seven times in 36 league matches. After his Belgian stint, he moved to Hamburger SV and confirmed his abilities there, which ultimately led to the switch to Brighton for around €54 million.

Financial hurdle at Bayern Munich

According to transfer expert Christian Falk of CF Bayern Insider, Vušković is still on Bayern Munich's wish list, but at the time the club could not secure him due to insufficient financial resources and no space in the squad. Falk says Bayern now has to sell a centre‑back first – possible candidates are Min‑jae Kim and Hiroki Ito – before a new signing becomes feasible.

The Croat has expressed his own interest in eventually playing for Bayern Munich, but there are currently no concrete negotiations or official offer. Vušković remains under contract with Brighton until 2031, where he can continue to develop and has already shown that he can also perform in the Bundesliga.

For Westerlo it is noteworthy that a former loanee, barely a year and a half after his departure, is again linked to Vincent Kompany's side via Bayern Munich. The situation underscores how quickly talent from a small Belgian club can rise to the top of European football.
