Bayern München's first point loss breaks 59-match scoring streak
Vincent Kompany saw Bayern Munich take their first loss of points of the season on Saturday evening, when the German champions visited newly promoted Schalke 04 and ended in a 0-0 draw. This halted an impressive run of 59 consecutive competitive matches in which Bayern scored at least once.
Schalke's solid defence
Bayern Munich had a lot of possession, but could not break down Schalke 04's compact defence. German goalkeeper Loris Karius became the hero of the evening when he denied a dangerous attempt by Harry Kane in the closing stages. Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala also got chances, but their efforts did not produce any goals.
Vincent Kompany, the Belgian coach, started Harry Kane and Michael Olise on the bench. He praised Schalke's discipline and emphasized that Bayern created many chances but did not utilise them. “We had our moments and created big chances,” Kompany said afterwards.
The 0-0 draw brought an end to a run of 59 consecutive competitive matches in which Bayern scored at least once. In addition, a sequence of 67 matchdays in which the German champions topped the Bundesliga also came to an end.
The Italian reporter wrote: “Lo Schalke 04 stripped a point from Bayern Monaco.” The same report also mentioned Bayer Leverkusen as one of the teams that played that week.
For Bayern, a new test awaits on Thursday, when Bodø/Glimt visits in the Champions League. Kompany indicated that the team must focus on efficiency and converting chances into goals.
“At Bayern you can only be satisfied if you win,” Kompany concluded. He continues to hope that the side will quickly regain its scoring ability.
