Bayern‑Mönchengladbach’s losing streak continues as Mainz secure comeback victory
While Bayern‑Mönchengladbach entered the fourth round of the Bundesliga with a three‑match losing run and an interim coach after dismissing O. Polanski, Mainz arrived on 19 October with four points from one win, one draw and one loss, eager to snap a winless spell.
Bayern‑Mönchengladbach named defender K. Itakura in the starting eleven, while D. Hashioka and forward Shuto Machino began on the bench; midfielder Zento Uno was omitted. Assistant coach Jan Moritz Richter took charge on an interim basis. In the 11th minute Florian Neuhäus gave BMG the lead.
Mainz started midfielder Kaishu Sano in the XI, with Sota Kawasaki absent. Philip Tietz equalised in the 18th minute.
In time Sherald Becker headed Sano’s cross for Mainz’s lead. Kevin Dicks missed a penalty, Isaac Lidberg’s volley made it 2‑2, then Sano set up Eric Martel’s header and Danny da Costa scored before Machino converted a penalty.
BMG’s fourth defeat sees them travel to Cologne on 11 October, while Mainz host Leverkusen on 10 October.
