Bayern lock in Laimer to secure midfield versatility for six years
Bayern Munich have moved to cement midfield stability by extending Austria international Konrad Laimer’s stay until 30 June 2029, a six‑year deal confirmed by the Bavarian club on Monday, locking the versatile midfielder into the squad for the foreseeable future.
The club’s need for a multi‑positional engine grew after a season of tactical shifts, and Laimer’s ability to operate across midfield and defence offers the flexibility Bayern require. His consistency has been highlighted by the coaching staff, who praised his performances in a range of roles during his first campaign.
Laimer signed a new contract with FC Bayern Munich that runs until 30 June 2029, securing his services for six more years. The Bavarian side announced the extension on Monday, confirming the midfielder’s long‑term future at the club.
Since arriving in the 2023/24 season, Laimer has helped Bayern collect four domestic titles, becoming a key figure in a trophy‑laden campaign. His contributions across the pitch have been instrumental in maintaining the team’s winning momentum.
Sporting directors Max Eberl and Christoph Freund fully backed the extension, lauding Laimer’s reliability, versatility and passion both on and off the field. Eberl added, “He is a player who inspires and motivates others every day,” underscoring his influence in the dressing room.
Laimer expressed his happiness at remaining in Munich, emphasizing his desire to continue contributing in multiple positions. He also highlighted the club’s ambition and his personal commitment to its success.
The versatile defender has already made 136 appearances for Bayern and featured every minute for Austria at the World Cup, demonstrating durability and international experience. These attributes reinforce his role as a dependable figure in the squad.
