Bayern keep tabs on Liverpool’s £116m signing as pressure mounts
Bayern Munich are keeping a close watch on Liverpool’s £116 million signing Florian Wirtz, with pressure building on the German club to act as the midfielder’s form stalls at Anfield. The Bundesliga giants’ interest has intensified after a difficult season for the 22‑year‑old.
According to TEAMtalk, Bayern Munich remain interested in Wirtz and are tracking his situation closely at Anfield. The German side’s interest is described as a watching brief rather than an imminent bid, and Bayern are waiting as pressure builds around the player’s future.
Record fee and early expectations
Liverpool committed £116 million to secure Wirtz, a sum matched only by the interest of Bayern Munich and Manchester City. The club won the race for his signature in 2025, outspending both rivals and forcing Bayern to withdraw from the bidding war. The expectation was that the midfielder would provide immediate authority and decisive numbers in the Premier League.
The season, however, has fallen short of those expectations. Wirtz has managed five goals and three assists in 33 league appearances, and he failed to score in the opening five matches of the new campaign, contributing only one assist. Such returns are deemed insufficient for a player bought for elite money.
New coach faces the Wirtz dilemma
Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League and saw manager Arne Slot depart on 30 May 2026. Andoni Iraola now inherits a side that has lacked rhythm and structure, and he must decide whether Wirtz can become the centrepiece of a refreshed title‑winning era. Iraola’s task includes giving the German midfielder a defined role rather than vague faith.
Bayern’s stance remains predictable; they rated Wirtz before his move and continue to rate him now, knowing his profile remains strong in Germany. If Liverpool fail to restore his form by spring, Bayern could become relevant very quickly, though the report stresses that no transfer is imminent.
Liverpool, according to the report, are not looking to sell Wirtz. The club plans to reassess his position at the end of the season if the expected progress does not materialise, aiming to avoid public wobble that could invite bidders and damage his value.
