Bayern faces coach and Kimmich absence ahead of Arsenal clash

After the furious 6:1‑victory over RB Leipzig, FC Bayern warmed up impressively for the Champions‑League duel against FC Arsenal on Wednesday evening at 21 Uhr, but the preparation is not going smoothly: coach Vincent Kompany has to sit out because of a viral infection and a hip injury, midfield chief Joshua Kimmich is missing for private reasons, while captain Manuel Neuer sends positive signals.

Coach Vincent Kompany missing due to illness

As FC Bayern officially announced on Tuesday, Kompany must continue to rest because of a viral infection. The 40‑year‑old Belgian therefore also misses the press conference ahead of the Arsenal duel, where his assistant Aaron Danks will represent him. In addition to the infection, Kompany also suffers from a hip injury that already causes problems when climbing stairs and briefly forces him onto a sofa in his dressing room during halftime and after the Leipzig match.

Joshua Kimmich missing for private reasons

Joshua Kimmich, 31, was also not in the final training on Tuesday. According to a report by Abendzeitung reporter Maximilian Koch on X, the midfield strategist did not take part in the last session for private reasons. A possible injury reason was explicitly ruled out, and Kimmich is expected to be available on Wednesday evening as planned.

Manuel Neuer shows positive signals

There are positive news from captain Manuel Neuer. The 40‑year‑old goalkeeper, who most recently had to sit out because of fluid in his foot, is apparently on the verge of returning between the posts. Neuer is expected to start in goal again for the match against Arsenal.

The officials are optimistic: sporting director Max Eberl said after the Leipzig match that they firmly believe there will be no problem seeing Kompany on the sidelines on Wednesday. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether the coach will be fully fit.

The 6:1‑victory over RB Leipzig has indeed given FC Bayern strong momentum, but the absences of Kompany and Kimmich raise questions about the tactical preparation. Without the coach and the central midfielder, the team could operate less structured in the first half.

Manuel Neuer, who most recently sat out because of a foot injury, however sends a reassuring signal for the defence. His return could stabilise the back line and help the team maintain the attacking strength displayed in the Leipzig match.

With these developments, FC Bayern look forward with anticipation to the Wednesday match, which will be played at 21 Uhr at the Emirates Stadium. The coming hours will show whether Kompany will be back on the touchline and whether Kimmich, as announced, will be fit for action.
