Bayern face Bundesliga opener without Musiala amid epilepsy concerns

Bayern Munich will begin the Bundesliga season without attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala, as the German side confirm the 21‑year‑old is still unfit for his return after collapsing twice in training matches. The player suffers from absences syndrome, a form of epilepsy, and is undergoing medication adjustments that keep him sidelined for now.

Musiala also missed the German (Duitse) Supercup victory over Borussia Dortmund, a 2‑1 win, as trainer Vincent Kompany chose to rest him. Kompany said, "It’s going well with Jamal. He trains with the squad today, but he will not be in the matchday squad for Friday’s Bundesliga game against VfB Stuttgart." He added, "He is responding well to the adjusted treatment. We are consulting experts and he will return when the time is right."

The midfielder collapsed during practice games against Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig. Earlier this summer he featured for Germany at the World Cup without any physical problems, showing that the condition does not prevent him from playing at the highest level.
