Barcelona sign Gabriel Jesus as Ferran Torres replacement

Barcelona have moved for 29‑year‑old Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus to fill the void left by Ferran Torres, who departed for Paris Saint‑Germain, and to bolster an attack that lost its projected partner Julian Álvarez in the summer transfer window as the club reshapes its offensive strategy.

"Aos 29 anos, Gabriel Jesus vai, enfim, vestir a camisa do Barcelona," the club announced, confirming the striker’s age and his long‑awaited arrival.

Jesus arrives at his fourth senior club. He began his professional career with Palmeiras, then crossed to England where he featured for Manchester City and later Arsenal before making the switch to Barcelona.

Transfer fee and contract

The deal was concluded for roughly 10 million euros, with additional bonuses undisclosed. Barcelona secured the player on a contract that runs until 30 June 2029, tying him to the club for six seasons.

First day at Camp Nou

Jesus was already in Spain before the paperwork was finalised, attending a 5‑2 victory over Rayo Vallecano at the Camp Nou on Monday (31). His presence at the stadium coincided with the final stages of the agreement.

He also spoke of his lifelong ambition, noting, "Há dez anos eu poderia ter vindo para cá e agora cheguei. É um sonho para mim estar aqui. Vou dar o meu melhor e trabalhar muito. Não me incomoda o que dizem."

Jesus has not yet spoken with the coach about tactical duties; he expects those discussions to take place during the coming week. "Não conversamos com o mister sobre tática e sobre o que quer que eu faça, faremos isso durante a semana," he explained.

Assessing the squad, he said, "Eu tenho minhas qualidades. Não venho aqui para melhorar, porque aqui já estão de puta madre. Perdão, estão muito bem, eles têm muitas qualidades, não só os atacantes, como os pontas, os meias. Todos podem jogar e ajudar, então penso que sou mais para ajudar."
