Barcelona's midfield gamble stalls under €100m Lille price tag

🇬🇧
Barcelona are eyeing 18‑year‑old Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi as a long‑term solution for their midfield this summer, but Lille’s €80‑100 million price tag and a crowded field of European suitors turn the pursuit into a costly gamble for the Catalan giants. Barcelona have been monitoring Bouaddi for some time, seeing him as a player with enormous potential to rejuvenate their midfield. The club’s ongoing financial constraints mean any investment must promise long‑term value. The 18‑year‑old impressed at the World Cup with Morocco, earning widespread attention for his maturity, composure and technical ability. His performances on the global stage have elevated his reputation across Europe. Lille are prepared to demand between €80 million and €100 million for the midfielder, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and several Premier League clubs are also tracking the Lille talent. Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal have recently renewed contacts to gather information on a possible transfer. Barcelona’s financial restrictions amplify the challenge of meeting Lille’s valuation. The high price places the Catalan club at a disadvantage compared with other interested parties. Lille’s awareness of broad interest gives them a favourable negotiating position, leaving Barcelona to navigate a costly hurdle. Unless the price can be reduced, the transfer is likely to stall.
