Barcelona lure Spurs' Pedro Porro despite his long‑term London deal
Pedro Porro, the 27‑year‑old right‑back, could be tempted to join Barcelona even though he signed a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur in London that runs until 2031, with the club holding an option to extend for a further twelve months, according to reports.
Porro, 27, penned the new deal in June. The agreement secures his services until 2031 and gives Spurs the right to add another twelve months.
Roberto De Zerbi, appointed towards the end of last season, was instrumental in convincing the full‑back to stay. His influence was key to Porro’s long‑term commitment.
Spurs’ dire start
The current campaign has been disastrous for Tottenham. After five matches the club sit bottom of the Premier League table with just two points.
“It’s going to be interesting to see what happens with players like Pedro Porro,” a source told Football Insider. “The key will be if Tottenham continue to struggle, because if they finish down the bottom of the table again, it’s going to be very hard to keep hold of their best players. He’s been happy at Tottenham, that’s why he signed a new contract in the summer, but if they keep finishing low down the table and they’re not in Europe, how long will that last? He’s on a long‑term contract, but if Barcelona come calling, I think there is a very real chance that he could be tempted away. It would mean a move back to Spain, where he’s obviously very highly thought of after winning the World Cup, and maybe that’s something he would be interested in. As I say, I’m told he’s happy at Tottenham for now, but that might change if their results don’t improve quickly.”
Barcelona’s right‑back options
Barcelona already have Joao Cancelo and Jules Kounde as their primary right‑back choices. Kounde’s future remains uncertain, with Chelsea reportedly interested and Xabi Alonso personally keen on the French defender.
Real Madrid have also been linked with Porro, but Barcelona are the name most frequently mentioned as a potential destination. A move would bring the Spanish international back to his home country.
Tottenham have stated there is no pressure to sell, and Porro is expected to concentrate on helping the team reverse its poor form. The defender’s decision will hinge on how quickly the Spurs can improve their results.
