Barcelona-linked Adeyemi’s exit confirmed as Dortmund grants time off

Borussia Dortmund have officially confirmed that the Barcelona-linked attacker is absent from today’s performance test, signalling his imminent departure. Karim Adeyemi, the German international who missed the World Cup, is reportedly in talks with Barcelona and other clubs as the summer transfer window approaches.

Adeyemi has become the biggest talking point at Barcelona after the club completed a surprise swoop on the German international. The interest surged following Dortmund’s confirmation of his availability.

All indications point to a deal worth around €22 million, suggesting the move is on the verge of being finalized this summer. Barcelona appears eager to wrap up the transaction quickly.

Dortmund posted on X that both Karim Adeyemi and Kjell Watjen will not participate in today’s performance testing, granting them time off to hold talks with other clubs. This announcement directly confirms Adeyemi’s intention to leave Dortmund this summer.

Adeyemi was not selected for the German national team for the World Cup, which meant he was not entitled to an extended summer break. Consequently, he was expected to report for a performance test but did not.

German coach Hansi Flick has urged Barcelona to integrate Adeyemi as quickly as possible, hoping the explosive winger can join training without delay. Flick wants the player to fit into his tactical setup promptly.

Barcelona may also announce the signing of another fast winger, Jesse Bisiwu, in the coming days. The news article included a photo by Christof Koepsel/Getty Images.

The contrast between Dortmund’s pragmatic confirmation and Barcelona’s rapid pursuit highlights the divergent approaches of the two clubs. What remains to be seen is whether the €22 million deal will be sealed before the next transfer deadline.
