Barcelona delays Adeyemi debut to ensure flawless launch
Barcelona are keen to avoid a repeat of the confusion that marred the presentation of English ace Anthony Gordon, so they have deliberately delayed the debut of new signing Karim Adeyemi to guarantee a flawless launch. The La Liga champions see a smooth introduction as essential after the earlier mishap.
The club have agreed to sign 24‑year‑old German forward Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund for a fixed €22 million plus €7 million in performance‑related bonuses. This transfer was finalised after both sides settled the agreement, with the fee structure clearly outlined.
Adeyemi arrived in Barcelona on July 15 and completed his medical examination the following day, July 16. The club’s presentation was repeatedly pushed back while both clubs finalised the remaining paperwork, resulting in a brief administrative delay.

President Joan Laporta was in New York for the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, which delayed the unveiling. Now back in Barcelona, Laporta will be present alongside sporting director Deco to welcome the German international.
Adeyemi signed a five‑year contract worth approximately €6 million per season. Borussia Dortmund will retain a percentage of any future capital gain, and the agreement between the clubs has been fully settled for over a week, pending only bureaucratic steps.
The official announcement is set for Thursday morning, July 23, with Laporta and Deco present for the unveiling. Once introduced, Adeyemi will train under head coach Hansi Flick and travel with the squad to England on Monday for Barcelona’s pre‑season camp.
After his presentation, the German forward is expected to join training sessions immediately, integrating into the squad ahead of the upcoming pre‑season preparations.
