Barcelona chase Haaland despite €220m market value and high wage bill

FC Barcelona is reportedly considering a comprehensive package to sign the Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, according to English media reports. The striker’s €220 million market value, with a contract running until 2034, is at the centre of the focus. On 20 September 2026, Haaland made a gesture to the fans during the Premier League clash against Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England.

Market value and salary as a hurdle

The market value of Haaland is quoted at €220 million, an amount that Barcelona, according to reports, wants to incorporate into a package. At the same time, his high salary, contractually secured until 2034, makes any possible transfer fee more difficult. Concrete figures for a transfer sum or an offer have not been published so far.

Barça has been searching for a long‑term solution for the attacking centre since the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, and the club has not managed to sign a new star striker. Currently, Haaland sits at the very top of the wish list.

According to English media, Haaland could already be thinking about leaving Manchester in the summer 2027. This prospect encourages Barcelona to already be holding background talks. The Norwegian forward remains contractually bound to City until 2034.

(NOTE: Image editing has been applied) The reports from ENGLAND on the SEPTEMBER‑20‑day show Haaland gesturing to the fans after the Premier League duel against Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium. So far, however, there is no concrete offer from Barcelona; it is merely internal deliberation on a possible transfer package.

The juxtaposition of Barcelona’s offensive desire and the financial hurdles makes clear that a possible move for Haaland heavily depends on a creative solution to the market‑value and salary problem. How the project develops remains to be seen.
