Barça mourns loss: “C’est dommage” as Araujo heads to Liverpool

Ronald Araujo is set to join Liverpool on a season‑long loan, a move that leaves Barça lamenting the loss. The Uruguayan centre‑back’s departure after five years has sparked regret at FC Barcelone, with teammate Fermin Lopez calling it “C’est dommage”.

The loan agreement runs for one season and includes an option to buy for €55 million. Liverpool will decide whether to activate the clause at the end of the campaign. Araujo will therefore report to the Reds in the coming days.

Araujo arrived at the Catalan club five seasons ago and has become a mainstay in central defence. The Sud‑Americain has captained the Blaugranas on several occasions since the 2023‑24 season. His leadership on the pitch has been noted by teammates and staff alike.

Spanish attacking midfielder Fermin Lopez spoke openly about the impending exit. He described it as difficult to watch a fellow player, who has worn the captain’s armband, leave the squad. “Il a pris cette décision pour continuer à progresser,” he said.

Lopez added, “C’est dommage because he is one of our captains and I have a good relationship with him.” He expressed hope that Araujo will return to Barcelona next season. The comments underline the personal bond between the two players.

FC Barcelone’s camp acknowledged the regret but also recognised the professional nature of the move. The club will miss Araujo’s defensive qualities but respects his desire to continue developing elsewhere. The loan is seen as a temporary separation rather than a permanent farewell.

The contrast between Liverpool’s acquisition and Barça’s sense of loss highlights the divergent perspectives on the same transfer. While the Reds look forward to bolstering their back line, the Catalan side must adjust to the void left by a long‑serving captain.
