Barca look for replacement for Julian Alvarez after failed transfer

After the failed negotiations over the Argentine striker Julian Alvarez, sporting director Deco confirmed that FC Barcelona is now looking for another highly decorated forward to fill the gap in attack, after the planned move to Atlético Madrid fell through.

Atletico Madrid firmly rejected Barcelona's offer and cited the contractually stipulated release clause of five hundred million euros, causing the deal to collapse. The Argentine international remains in Madrid despite having publicly expressed a desire to leave, and there he faces strong backlash from the fan side. Deco added: “He is an icon, a legend of Inter, and he is still captain there today. Out of respect for the player and the club, when Inter told us they were not willing to negotiate, we halted our approach and did not pursue the matter further.” He added that Barcelona never had any contact with Lautaro or his agent, but that the club still admires the player.

Ultimately, Barca signed Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal shortly before the transfer window closed to broaden the squad.
