Balagizi ends 11‑year Liverpool spell with Instagram farewell
James Balagizi has confirmed on Instagram that his eleven‑year spell at Liverpool has come to an end, bringing his time at Anfield to a close. The 22‑year‑old midfielder posted the message on Monday, signalling the final chapter of his association with the Reds.
Academy roots and loan experience
Balagizi entered the Reds’ academy at Under‑11 level and rose through each age group. Despite his steady development, a regular first‑team place never materialised, and he remained on the periphery of senior selection. His progress was marked by appearances for the Under‑18 side that reached the 2021 FA Youth Cup final.
The midfielder accumulated experience on loan at Crawley Town, Wigan Athletic, Kilmarnock and Forest Green Rovers. Liverpool’s website recorded sixteen outings and three goals for Crawley during the first half of the 2022‑23 season. He also featured on the senior bench twice, though he never made a competitive debut.
Liverpool had already indicated his exit in the summer, listing him among academy players whose contracts would expire. The club’s official statement confirmed that his deal would not be renewed, confirming the inevitable departure.

Emotional Instagram farewell
Balagizi shared an emotional Instagram note on Monday, writing: ‘From 11 to 22, it’s been an honour to represent this special club throughout a large part of my life. I’m so grateful and fortunate for all of the experiences I’ve had over the years… YNWA.’ The message thanked teammates, coaches and staff for their support.
Even after his contract technically ended, Balagizi continued training at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre in July, with the club assisting his fitness while he explored new opportunities. James kept a positive outlook during the training period. He remained in contact with the Reds’ staff throughout this period.
The announcement was published by CaughtOffside News and can be followed on Google for further updates. Arsenal have been reported to monitor the 22‑year‑old, although a move appears unlikely. At his age, there is still ample time for Balagizi to rebuild his career elsewhere. More information will emerge as he decides his next step.
