Bakayoko returns to Leipzig for PSV clash after suspension
Johan Bakayoko gets the chance on Tuesday for the first time since his disciplinary suspension to play against PSV, the club where he spent the final part of his training. The RB Leipzig striker was suspended this weekend, but coach Martín Demichelis confirmed that the matter has been resolved.
Bakayoko came from RSC Anderlecht to FC Eindhoven in 2019 and left six years later for RB Leipzig. Since then he has only featured sporadically this season.
Leipzig win 6-0 without Bakayoko
His absence was noticeable during the most recent match, in which Leipzig won 6-0 against Eintracht Frankfurt. The victory came without the Belgian striker, who according to the media received a disciplinary suspension. Demichelis later confirmed that the matter has now been dealt with.
Demichelis gets a breather just before Champions League duel with PSV
‘The Bakayoko issue is a minor thing, we’ll keep it between the two of us. He made a small mistake, but he’s a good lad. We’ve already talked about it and he’ll be there again on Tuesday,’ said coach Martín Demichelis. He added: ‘We were training and I had already forgotten about it. But we were able to talk about it well.’
Demichelis praised PSV as an interesting opponent with a clear game plan under manager Peter Bosz. ‘This can only turn into a great match, right?’, he said. Leipzig earlier this season lost their first Champions League tie 4-1 to Como in northern Italy, while PSV recently secured a point against Shakhtar Donetsk.
