Back‑heel brilliance fuels Pio Esposito’s rise at San Siro

Pio Esposito arrived last summer as the youngest member of Inter’s attacking line, yet this season he has become the central figure at San Siro, contrasting sharply with his role as a novelty last year. The juxtaposition highlights a rapid evolution from peripheral prospect to indispensable starter.

From novelty to centerpiece

“Pio Esposito and ten others” are cited as part of a concept that some deem too strong for the football style of Cristian Chivu, which relies on interchangeable pieces. The approach stresses that facts increasingly outweigh words in evaluating a player’s impact.

Since the start of the campaign, the youngest attacker has started every friendly and then made his league debut, arriving as the only certainty on the eve of the season. His relentless work ethic culminated in a back‑heel goal that expands the repertoire of the 1994‑born Interista.

Back‑heel goal seals his rise

After Inter’s 4‑1 victory over Monza, Esposito explained, “That’s what I try to do… every year my goal is to improve both statistically and as an athlete. Show my qualities by doing the dirty work for my teammates. Then the goal came and I’m doubly happy.”

The match embodied his mission: sacrifice, fight and desire were on display, confirming that his contributions are more than fleeting flashes.

Contract extension confirms future

The club has resolved his contract renewal until 2031, featuring a salary more than doubled, signalling a major recognition of his value. The confirmation arrived last night at San Siro, when Esposito declared, “It’s the start I wanted regardless of the contract. The renewal? Definitely.”

Inter now possesses a home‑grown striker to continue a long‑term cycle, a development that pleases everyone, including head coach Simone Mancini.
