Baby Rooney criticises Manchester United's stars after 1-4 defeat

Wayne Rooney, 40-year-old former England international, accuses the stars of Manchester United in the podcast “The United Stand” of selfish behavior. While the players, after the 1-4 defeat to Como 1907, shift responsibility onto others, the club legend calls for more team spirit.

Criticism after the 1-4 defeat

"These players are selfish. They don't care about their teammates, not about the coach, the staff or the fans – they only care about themselves," Rooney said in the podcast. His words were aimed at the current squad, which he calls "Stars", although he regards their behaviour as childish.

After the setback in the Champions League match against Como 1907, captain Bruno Fernandes criticised the tactics of team manager Michael Carrick and demanded that United play "bolder". Fernandes thereby questioned the team's strategic direction.

Earlier, centre‑back Lisandro Martínez had publicly questioned the strength of the squad. Rooney responded: "When Martinez spoke up, I said that was an absolute nightmare because it will tear the team apart." He saw this as the beginning of a responsibility crisis.

In the domestic league, Manchester United have botched the start of the season and sit only in 13th place. The weak position confirms the criticism of the Stars' performance.

After the Italian collapse, the local press also said no good word about the 20‑time champions. Rooney summed up the overall picture: "If they don't get what they deserve, they behave like babies, simply throwing their toys out of the stroller and shifting the blame onto anyone else but themselves."
