Austrian FA gives Infantino a clear rebuff ahead of FIFA re‑election
The Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) decided on Friday at a board meeting in Vienna not to support the re‑election of Gianni Infantino as president of the International governing body FIFA. The decision follows the example of UEFA, which also turned against the Swiss.
Infantino's plan to transfer the rights to the World Cups to investors has sparked considerable resistance in Europe. The ÖFB justified its decision with the developments of the past weeks and months as well as the still unresolved allegations. “The basis for this decision are the developments of the past weeks and months and the consequently markedly changed framework conditions. The allegations have so far neither been credibly clarified nor refuted,” the association explained in a press release.
The ÖFB emphasizes that supporting UEFA is a logical approach. “A united approach by the European associations sends a strong signal of responsibility for the sport and of solidarity,” it continued. The term Fu is not further explained in the text.
